This is for those who quake at the thought of and have difficulty mastering the methods of machine quilting.  We will learn how to quilt lines and free-motion and learn how to set up your machine for each style.  Students also discover aspects of their machine they are frightened to explore on their own and learn about the different tools and equipment to make the best job of their quilting.  Those who have previously attended and still have problems are welcome to join the group as are those who want help quilting a project. Ethnic Style Stencilled Bag with S Lockie - 10 Spaces

We will make a satchel styled bag. First we will create our fabric by stencilling using an ethnic design, then quilt and embellish it, using hand and machine stitching. Sewing machine required.

Take your picture, learn how to pixelate it, then create the image using squares of fabric.  Add the details, then overlay with tulle and quilt.

This is what all you jelly roll lover have been waiting for the chance to do a new design with a jelly roll so if you have done 1, 2 and are now ready for to move on than this is the workshop for you, the jelly roll and fabric along with you lunch is included in the price of this workshop. There are 4 days to choose from but don’t leave it to long to book as place will go fast on this workshop. Sewing machine, basic swing kit, ruler, rotary cutter and board are required.

Do you get frustrated when your threads break and shred and will just not work in your machine?  Do you feel guilty when consigning that expensive thread to the ‘do not use’ basket? Come along and have fun finding out just what to do to make those threads work.  It will be fast a furious and you will find out just what you can do with the threads and your machine. Create a modern interpretation of a silhouette in fabric taking an image or images from your favourite photographs.  We will create pieced or painted background for your image. Sewing machine required.

Dreaming of Landscapes with Mrs S Lockie - 12 spaces
Saturday 12th June : 10.30 – 4.00 : £20

We will use a fast-piece appliqué technique to create a landscape of your dreams.  It can be a ‘funky’ or realistic as you please.  You will also learn how to couch threads, use hand and machine stitching and appliqué and add embellishments to add the extra ‘sparkle and zing’ to make your dream come alive. Sewing machine required.

Want to keep all your essentials in one tidy place, then this is the workshop for you,  make a fabric roll with pocket and slots for all sorts of things. This will also makes a wonderful gift for your quilting or artist friend. Sewing machine required.

Sculpted Thread Jewellery with Mrs S Lockie - 10 spaces

The workshop will involve free motion machine stitching and the use water soluble film and machine threads to create your own textured fabric to sculpt into art forms for jewellery. You will make your own unique earrings and a brooch for yourself or to give away as gifts. (Water-soluble films will be available for a small charge.)

Have you tried to machine quilt using twin needles?  If not why not come along and find out how to do it and do something different with your quilting. 
You will learn how to set up your machine to use the twin needle, how to use your programmed stitches as well as how to free-motion quilt using the twin needle. A fun day, which will produce a series of samples, to make into a small quilt. Sewing machine required.

Buttons and Beads with  Mrs S Lockie - 10 spaces

Another opportunity to explore making buttons and beads from Tyvek and Shrink Plastic and other interesting materials.  We will colour, shape, heat and contort these mediums to make beads and buttons that are unique.  Just ideal for that project that needs a special embellishment.

Encapsulations with Mrs S Lockie - 10 spaces

Entrap a variety of materials such as pressed flowers and leaves, threads, grasses, postage stamps or any other small flat objects between fabric and a laminating plastic to make a new fabric.  Stitch and embellish then we will use this to create a book cover for a journal or notebook.

Always wondered what to do with a charm pack then this is the workshop will be right up your street, this easy stunning bag with it’s little pockets is made from a charm pack and a bit of lining. Once you have made one you will look at charm packs in a new light. Sewing machine required.

Have you got an untidy handbag, can’t find a pen or a piece of paper to make that all important sketch of a quilt pattern, then why not enrol in the workshop. You will make an organiser to keep in your handbag that will have room for a note book, pen, diary and maybe even a tape measure. So this is really a workshop that you can’t afford to miss. Summer School 2010

Summer School with S Lockie
Mondays 10.30am - 12.30pm : £3.50 per morning

Summer school is where you come and finish your U.F.O (un-finished objects). Our teacher will be there to point you in the right direction and help you with any question you might have about finishing you project. There is no need to book this class you can just turn up on the day and pay your £3.50

Journal Quilt with Mrs S Lockie - 10 Spaces

Journal Quilts are small A4 sized quilts based on a single theme or a relevant topic each month.  They use a variety of techniques, both traditional and modern and can use traditional and more unusual materials. In each session we will learn 2 different techniques on which you will base each of your quilts, and over the 6 workshops we will create 12 small pieces to develop your creative skills. The masterpieces can be kept as small single quilts or made into a larger Wallhanging or even a book.
(I will provide some of the unusual materials we will be using.  This may incur a small charge.)

Sew in a Row with Angela Church - 10 Spaces

Back for 2010 sew a row, the demand for this workshop has been so great that we have manage to get Angela to do in again this year so for anyone that missed out last time don’t delay book your space so as not to miss out this year. With this quilt you are able to joint different rows together using different methods creating a stunning quilt. This is not quilt as you go. Sewing machine Required.

Celtic Quit with Sarah Soward - 10 spaces

Make this stunning Celtic quilt. Most of the work is done by hand however the sashings and the borders can be machined together. This is not a 'quilt as you go' quilt.

In this quilt there will be a selection of different hearts made from foundation piecing as well as applique, reverse applique and bias applique so there will be plenty of techniques for you to learn if you have not already done them, so go on join in on the fun as we all have a heart. Ends on Valentines Day.

Monkey business, snapping crock and jumping kangaroos, or maybe just your favourite animals all in one place. What ever you fancy we will be a mad march hare if you miss out on this class

Crop Circle with Sarah Soward - 10 spaces
Wednesday 1.00 - 4.00 : £36

This quilt is inspired by crop circles, have you ever stopped and looked at the patterns, who knows were they come from and who does them but the patterns are fantastic so I have translated some of may favourite ones into fabric, and I hope you have as much fun making yours as I did mine.

Booking Details

A non-refundable/non-transferable £5 deposit is required to secure your place on each workshop. Provisional bookings by telephone must be paid within 5 days. Full payment must be made 2 weeks prior to the workshop/class commencing. Failure to pay will will result in loss of place. We can accept the full payment for workshops/classes by credit card.

SEWING MACHINE HIRE

Sewing machines are available for hire at a charge of £5 per day. If you need to hire a machine please request one when you book the workshop, as a limited amount of machines are available. Thread is not provided.

CANCELLATION

If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible, we may be able to fill your place, if the cancellation is 7 days or less before the workshop then no money will be refunded. If it is 2 weeks or before your money will be refunded less a £5 administration charge.

PLEASE NOTE

Any workshops where a sewing machine is required, it is helpful if you bring your manual and a spare needle.

If you book and pay for a class or workshop but do not attend, then you lose the rights to the pattern for that class or workshop, this does not apply if you miss one for a holiday or illness.

All workshops are held at Pauline's Patchwork Brewers Quay, Hope Square Weymouth. To get to Brewers Quay just follow the brown signs to the Time walk. Tea and coffee is available all day along with soft drinks. There are a number of food areas in and around the building; opening times vary in the winter.

If you wish to stay in Weymouth when you are on a weekend workshop then contact the Weymouth tourist information centre (01305 785747) and they will send you a booklet on a range of Hotels and B&Bs.
